The File menu (sctextw)

The File menu (sctextw)

Open (F2)

Use this option to select a language file to edit. A standard Open File dialog window is opened.

The files listed are located in the configurable text directory $SCULPTOR/text. Note that although the dialog is a standard one, allowing changes of directory, only files in this directory can actually be loaded.

When a file has been loaded, the following information is displayed at the top of the screen:

  • The file name

  • The extension

  • The number of the item currently displayed, and the total number of items

  • The number of physical text lines in the current item

  • The maximum text length of lines in the current item

The first item is displayed, and is available for editing.

If this option is called when a file is currently loaded with unsaved changes, the user is warned and given the opportunity to save that file first.

Note

The Files of type box in the Open File dialog can be used to select a different language file extension. The extensions and their associated descriptions (e.g. English Files {*.eng} ) are themselves configurable text. To alter them open the file “sctext.eng”, select item 88 and edit it. Each description line is immediately followed by the associated extension. The first listed (i.e. the one occupying lines 1 and 2) is the default.

Save (F3)

Use this option to save the current file. The Save+Exit button saves and then immediately exits from the text editor.

Save As (SHIFT-F3)

Use this option to save the current file under a different name. This is necessary when an existing file has been loaded, and each item amended for use with a new extension (e.g. translated into another language). Using the Save (F3) option would cause the original file to be overwritten.

If no extension is specified, the current file extension is used.

A warning is issued if a file if the same name already exists.

Exit

Exit from the configurable text editor. If the current file has unsaved changes, the user is warned and given the opportunity to save that file first.
